Amongst the caves in the cliff above Çavuşin lie what remains of the Church of St John the Baptist, thought to have been carved out of the rock in the 5th century.  The village was abandoned after numerous rock-falls made it unsafe, its inhabitants moving to a new settlement nearby.
Today, it is all very touristic.
