The strange landscape of this part of Cappadocia was formed as a result of ash being deposited by an erupting volcano thousands of years ago. Over time the compacted ash ( tuff ) eroded into the shapes visible today.
This is a typical scene, south of Çavuşin, with Aktepe hill in the background.
