A view of the main stretch of water at Brown Moss. The site began to be formed at the end of the last Ice Age, about 12,500 years ago. Today a number of pools are set in a landscape of marsh, heath and woodland. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and supports a wide variety of flora and fauna.
The water levels of the pools fluctuate considerably. On this visit I was unable to complete a circular walk of the site due to unseasonal flooding.
View to the south-west.
